Building a bin
From WormWiki
Simple designs
Rubbermaid worm bin - One of the most common DIY worm bins, can be made of any plastic storage container, not just Rubbermaid.
OSCAR Jr. - high end Rubbermaid bin alterations meant to optimize air flow and therefore production of castings. Easy to make if you have simple carpentry tools.
Boreal Wormer - Another great way to alter a Rubbermaid bin to increase aeration. This bin also clearly demonstrates the best use of the 'side to side' method of harvesting, which is as easy as the flow through bins if done correctly.

Flow Through Designs
DIY Flow Through bins: a collection of links -small & medium scale FT bins
Vermitopia Berkeley EDU plans - large scale flow through bins. The concept can be scaled down (see 'pass through barrel' below)
Pass through barrel - A smaller variation of the vermitopia, suitable for the family wormer (vs. the businessman). Detailed instructions are given on paper writing on how to convert a specific type of barrel into a flow through bin. These instructions can be modified for garbage bins (they get heavy, wheels are a great idea), or even smaller indoor trash cans. The important parts are the cut out towards the bottom for harvesting, and the 'screen' (parallel lines of a non-biodegradable line. I used the plastic wire used by weed wackers. Others use nylon rope or even metal bars.) The first part of the instructions in this link are specific for that type of food grade barrel.
Amy Young's Worm Bin Bag - great idea that can be modified if desired, for example, by using jeans for the bag material. (Long narrow bag!) You'll need a place to hang the jeans, which can become very heavy
